POLICE OFFICER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Please review each Department’s requirements carefully prior to completing the application. It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet the minimum requirements of each Department before submitting your application.

CHELTENHAM TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age by date of hire
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Applicants must be free of tattoos on the face, ears, neck or any objectionable tattoos that are visible when wearing the Cheltenham Township Police Department uniform
  • ACT 120 Certification not required to apply
  • If required, must successfully complete the police academy after appointment

BOROUGH OF HATBORO

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid PA driver’s license prior to appointment as a police officer
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Have completed or presently be enrolled in a course of study at a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and be able to meet the certification standards of the MPOETC as required by PA Act 120, as amended; or qualify for a waiver of training

LOWER GWYNEDD TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Have reached their 21st birthday before the deadline for submitting completed applications.
  • Be a United States citizen at the time of appointment.
  • Be free from convictions of disqualifying criminal offenses.
  • Possess a high school diploma from an accredited high school or a graduate equivalency diploma (GED).
  • Have successfully completed the ACT 120 Municipal Officers’ Education and Training certification program. (Applicants currently enrolled in an ACT 120 Academy or who meet eligibility requirements for a Waiver of Training may apply for the position, but must receive MPOETC certification prior to appointment).
  • Be physically and psychologically capable of performing the duties of a police officer.
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment.
  • Be able to read at no less than a ninth grade level

LIMERICK TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Have completed or presently be enrolled in a course of study at a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and be able to meet the certification standards of the MPOETC as required by PA Act 120; or qualify for a waiver of training
  • Possess a valid PA driver’s license
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Have a minimum of 60 college credits from an accredited institution, or have a minimum of two years of experience as a full time police officer
  • No visible tattoos when wearing the police uniform
  • Successfully complete written, oral, medical, psychological, physical agility, and polygraph exams and thorough background investigation

MUNICIPALITY OF NORRISTOWN

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age before the deadline for submitting completed applications
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid PA driver’s license prior to appointment.
  • Be Physically & Mentally fit to perform the duties of police officer
  • All applicants must either have successfully completed the training and education prescribed by the Municipal Police Education and Training Act (“Act 120”), 53 Pa.C.S.A. § 2161 et seq., or  be eligible for Act 120 Certification (No Act 120 required)

NORTH WALES BORO

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age before the deadline for submitting completed applications
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a diploma from an accredited high school or GED
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Not have any tattoos or brandings which would be visible when wearing a short sleeve police uniform of the Borough
  • Not have any visible ear plugs, gauges or eyelets, or other visible similar body stretching jewelry or ornamentation, and any body parts visible while in uniform which have been altered for the wearing of same shall be repaired in order for the applicant to be eligible for the oral examination
  • Have completed or presently be enrolled in a course of study at a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and be able to meet the certification standards of the MPOETC as required by PA Act 120; or qualify for a waiver of training

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age at the time of application
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Have completed or presently be enrolled in a course of study at a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and be able to meet the certification standards of the MPOETC as required by PA Act 120; or qualify for a waiver of training
  • Must be free of tattoos and objectionable piercings on the face, ears, and neck, and must also be free of any objectionable tattoos that are visible when wearing the Springfield Township Police Department uniform, including a short sleeve uniform shirt

TOWAMENCIN TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age before the deadline for submitting completed applications
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid PA driver’s license
  • Be Physically & Mentally fit to perform the duties of police officer
  • Must have completed a course of study at a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and be able to meet the certification standards of the MPOETC as required by PA Act 120; or qualify for a waiver of training at the time of hire.

UPPER GWYNEDD TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age by the deadline for submitting applications
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license by the time of appointment
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Act 120 Certification NOT REQUIRED to apply, must successfully obtain certification within first year of employment.

UPPER MORELAND TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a diploma from an accredited high school or GED
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Not have any tattoos or brandings which would be visible when wearing a short sleeve police uniform of the Township
  • Not have any visible ear plugs, gauges or eyelets or other visible similar body stretching jewelry or ornamentation, and any body parts visible while in uniform which have been altered for the wearing of same shall be repaired in order for the applicant to be eligible for the oral examination
  • Meet one of the following additional qualifications: (1)Have earned at least 60 credits from an accredited college or university; or (2) have served at least three (3) continuous years as a full time police officer with a state, federal or municipal law enforcement agency or served at least three (3) years active duty in the United States; Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard.
  • Have successfully completed Act 120, as amended, (MPOETC) certification training within the thirty-six (36) months immediately prior to the deadline for filing the application for patrol officer or presently be enrolled in a course of study at a police academy certified by MPOETC and, within two hundred ten (210) days after the application deadline for patrol officer with the Township, successfully complete said training or qualify for a waiver of training as required by Act 120

UPPER POTTSGROVE TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age by the deadline for submitting applications
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Be a resident of Pennsylvania at the time of appointment
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Have 60 or more credits from an accredited college or have 3 or more year’s full time experience as a police officer or have served in police capacity in military for a minimum of two years within a four year enlistment
  • Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license by the time of appointment
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Pass a written exam, oral exam, physical exam, polygraph test, psychological test, and a background check
  • Have completed a course of study at a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and be able to meet the certification standards of the MPOETC as required by PA Act 120

WHITPAIN TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age by the deadline for submitting applications
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license by the time of appointment
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Not have any tattoos, brandings, body piercings, ear plugs, gauges or eyelets, or other similar body stretching jewelry or ornamentation which would be visible while wearing a long sleeve shirt.
  • Successfully complete written, oral, medical, psychological, physical agility, and polygraph exams and thorough background investigation
  • Act 120 Certification NOT REQUIRED to apply, must successfully obtain certification within first year of employment.
