POLICE OFFICER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

**Please review each department’s requirements carefully prior to completing the application.  It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet the minimum requirements of each department before submitting your application.  Departments listed are accepting applications for full-time positions unless otherwise noted**

CHELTENHAM

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age by date of hire
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Applicants must be free of tattoos on the face, ears, neck or any objectionable tattoos that are visible when wearing the Cheltenham Township Police Department uniform
  • Act 120 certification NOT required

COLLEGEVILLE 

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

    • Be at least 21 years of age by the deadline for submitting applications
    • Be a U.S. Citizen
    • Possess a high school diploma or GED
    • Have completed a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and be able to meet the certification standards of the MPOETC as required by PA Act 120
    • Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license at the time of appointment
    • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
    • Applicants must be free of tattoos on the face, ears, neck or any objectionable tattoos that are visible when wearing the Collegeville Police Department uniform

FRANCONIA

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age by the deadline for submitting applications
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Have completed a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and be able to meet the certification standards of the MPOETC as required by PA Act 120 before a date of hire
  • Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license at the time of appointment
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Applicants must be free of tattoos on the face, ears, neck, arms, hands or any areas that are visible when wearing the Franconia Township Police Department uniform

HATBORO

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid PA driver’s license prior to appointment as a police officer
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Act 120 certification Not required

HATFIELD

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid PA driver’s license
  • Be physically fit to perform the duties of a police officer

JENKINTOWN

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • All Applicants must have reached their twenty-first (21st) birthday before the deadline for submitting completed Applications.[1]
  • Each Applicant shall present evidence, as indicated on the Application, of his or her date of birth.[2]
  • Applicants must maintain residency within twenty-five (25) miles of the Borough.  Applicants not residing within twenty-five (25) miles at the time of Appointment must establish and maintain residency within one (1) year of Appointment
  • An Applicant may request from Borough Council a waiver of the residency requirement at the time of Conditional Appointment.
  • Every Applicant for any position in the Police Department shall possess, at the time of Application, a high school diploma, GED, or other certification of equivalency
  • Every Applicant must be a United States citizen, be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a Police Officer, able to read, write and understand the English language, and prior to Appointment, possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the government of one of the several states of these United States
  • All Applicants must have successfully completed the training and education prescribed by the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Act (“Act 120”), 53 Pa. C.S.A. § 2161, et seq., and have received Act 120 certification
  • A Police Officer may not hold an elective office in the Borough. Applicants who hold an elective office within the Borough shall be deemed not to possess the minimum requirements for Appointment

LIMERICK

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Have completed or presently be enrolled in a course of study at a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and be able to meet the certification standards of the MPOETC as required by PA Act 120; or qualify for a waiver of training
  • Possess a valid PA driver’s license
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Have a minimum of 60 college credits from an accredited institution, or have a minimum of two years of experience as a full-time police officer
  • No visible tattoos when wearing the police uniform

LOWER GWYNEDD

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Have reached their 21st birthday before the deadline for submitting completed applications
  • Be a United States citizen at the time of appointment
  • Possess a high school diploma from an accredited high school or a graduate equivalency diploma (GED)
  • Be physically and psychologically capable of performing the duties of a police officer
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment
  • Be able to read at no less than a ninth-grade level

MARLBOROUGH (PART-TIME)

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age by the deadline for submitting applications
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be PA Act 120 certified
  • Possess a valid PA driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Available days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Available 34 hours a week

MONTGOMERY 

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment
  • Applicant must be a United State citizen at time of appointment
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Have completed a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) or be currently enrolled in an MPOETC certified police academy
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer

NORTH WALES (PART-TIME)

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age before the deadline for submitting completed applications
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a diploma from an accredited high school or GED
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Not have any tattoos or brandings which would be visible when wearing a short sleeve police uniform of the Borough
  • Not have any visible ear plugs, gauges or eyelets, or other visible similar body stretching jewelry or ornamentation, and any body parts visible while in uniform which have been altered for the wearing of same shall be repaired in order for the applicant to be eligible for the oral examination
  • Have completed or presently be enrolled in a course of study at a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and be able to meet the certification standards of the MPOETC as required by PA Act 120; or qualify for a waiver of training

SOUDERTON (FULL AND PART-TIME)

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Be Act 120 certified
  • Be medically fit
  • Possess a PA driver’s license

SPRINGFIELD

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age at the time of application
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Have completed or presently be enrolled in a course of study at a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and be able to meet the certification standards of the MPOETC as required by PA Act 120; or qualify for a waiver of training
  • Police applicants and Police Officers must be free of any tattoos, branding, or body art on the face, ears, and/or neck.
  • Any visible offensive tattoos, branding, or body art, are prohibited when wearing the Springfield Township Police Department uniform.

TOWAMENCIN

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age before the deadline for submitting completed applications
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid PA driver’s license
  • Be Physically & Mentally fit to perform the duties of police officer
  • Must have completed a course of study at a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and be able to meet the certification standards of the MPOETC as required by PA Act 120; or qualify for a waiver of training at the time of hire.

UPPER GWYNEDD

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age by the deadline for submitting applications
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license by the time of appointment
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Act 120 Certification NOT REQUIRED to apply, must successfully obtain certification within first year of employment

UPPER MORELAND

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a diploma from an accredited high school or GED
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Not have any tattoos or brandings which would be visible when wearing a short sleeve police uniform of the Township
  • Not have any visible ear plugs, gauges or eyelets or other visible similar body stretching jewelry or ornamentation, and any body parts visible while in uniform which have been altered for the wearing of same shall be repaired in order for the applicant to be eligible for the oral examination.
  • Act 120 Certification NOT REQUIRED to apply, must successfully obtain certification within first year of employment. Applicant will be sponsored by township to attend Act 120 police academy.

UPPER POTTSGROVE

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age by the deadline for submitting applications
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Be a resident of Pennsylvania at the time of appointment
  • Have attained a minimum 60 college credits from an accredited institution. The 60-credit requirement is waived if you have two (2) years prior law enforcement experience in PA, or served in the military for a minimum of four years active duty enlistment.
  • Possess a valid PA driver’s license prior to employment
  • Successfully completed Act 120 training before the creation of eligibility list and eligible for certification upon receiving conditional offer of employment
  • Refer to the rules in place at the time of the written test for final requirements, etc.

WEST NORRITON

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Citizen of the United States
  • Twenty-one (21) years of age or older
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Current valid Pennsylvania Operator’s License by date of hire
  • Persons currently enrolled in a certified Act 120 Program may apply Applicants must possess a current Act 120 Certification or must have graduated from an accredited Act 120 Program by the date of appointment.
  • The Civil Service Commission reserves the right to reject any applications deemed not to be in the best interests of West Norriton Township.

WHITPAIN 

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

  • Be at least 21 years of age by the deadline for submitting applications
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license by the time of appointment
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Not have any tattoos, brandings, body piercings, ear plugs, gauges or eyelets, or other similar body stretching jewelry or ornamentation which would be visible while wearing a long sleeve shirt.
  • Successfully complete written, oral, medical, psychological, physical agility, and polygraph exams and thorough background investigation
  • Act 120 Certification NOT REQUIRED to apply, must successfully obtain certification within first year of employment.
