POLICE OFFICER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

**Please review each department’s requirements carefully prior to completing the application.  It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet the minimum requirements of each department before submitting your application.  Departments listed are accepting applications for full-time positions unless otherwise noted**

AMBLER BOROUGH

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Be at least 21 years of age by the date of hire
• Be a U.S. Citizen
• Possess a high school diploma or GED
• Possess a valid driver’s license
• Be physically and mentally fit or perform the duties of a police officer
• Applicants must be free of tattoos on the face, ears, neck or any objectionable tattoos that are visible when wearing the Ambler Borough Police Department Uniform
• Act 120 certified by the date of hire

COLLEGEVILLE BOROUGH 

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Be at least 21 years of age by the deadline for submitting applications
• Be a U.S. Citizen
• Possess a high school diploma or GED
• Have completed a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and be able to meet the certification standards of the MPOETC as required by PA Act 120
• Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license at the time of appointment
• Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
• Applicants must be free of tattoos on the face, ears, neck or any objectionable tattoos that are visible when wearing the Collegeville Police Department uniform

BOROUGH OF CONSHOHOCKEN

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Applicants must be 21 years of age at time of application
• Be a U.S. Citizen
• Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D
• Possess a valid PA driver’s license
• Have completed a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and be able to meet the certification standards of the MPOETC as required by PA Act 120
• Applicants must live within 25 miles of the Borough at the time of appointment.
• Physically and Mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer

DOUGLASS TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Be a United States Citizen
• Must hold PA MPOETC Act 120 Certification or presently enrolled at a police academy certified by MPOETC, or qualify for a waiver of training
• Be at least 21 years of age
• Have a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
• Hold a High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Be physically and mentally fit to perform all duties of a police officer as outlined by the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission

EAST NORRITON TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Be a United States Citizen
• Must hold PA MPOETC Act 120 Certification or presently enrolled at a police academy certified by MPOETC, or qualify for a waiver of training
• Be at least 21 years of age
• Have a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
• Hold a High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Be physically and mentally fit to perform all duties of a police officer as outlined by the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission
• Must submit to a complete background investigation

FRANCONIA TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Be at least 21 years of age by the deadline for submitting applications
• Be a U.S. Citizen
• Possess a high school diploma or GED
• Have completed a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and be able to meet the certification standards of the MPOETC as required by PA Act 120 before a date of hire
• Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license at the time of appointment
• Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
• Applicants must be free of tattoos on the face, ears, neck, arms, hands or any areas that are visible when wearing the Franconia Township Police Department uniform

BOROUGH OF HATBORO

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Be at least 18 years of age
• Be a U.S. Citizen
• Possess a high school diploma or GED
• Possess a valid PA driver’s license prior to appointment as a police officer
• Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
• Act 120 certification Not required

HATFIELD TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Be a U.S. Citizen
• Be at least 21 years of age
• Possess a high school diploma or GED
• Possess a valid PA driver’s license
• Be physically fit to perform the duties of a police officer
• Act 120 certification Not required

JENKINTOWN BOROUGH

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• All Applicants must have reached their twenty-first (21st) birthday before the deadline for submitting completed Applications.[1]
• Each Applicant shall present evidence, as indicated on the Application, of his or her date of birth.[2]
• Applicants must maintain residency within twenty-five (25) miles of the Borough. Applicants not residing within twenty-five (25) miles at the time of Appointment must establish and maintain residency within one (1) year of Appointment
• An Applicant may request from Borough Council a waiver of the residency requirement at the time of Conditional Appointment.
• Every Applicant for any position in the Police Department shall possess, at the time of Application, a high school diploma, GED, or other certification of equivalency
• Every Applicant must be a United States citizen, be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a Police Officer, able to read, write and understand the English language, and prior to Appointment, possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the government of one of the several states of these United States
• All Applicants must have successfully completed the training and education prescribed by the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Act (“Act 120”), 53 Pa. C.S.A. § 2161, et seq., and have received Act 120 certification
• A Police Officer may not hold an elective office in the Borough. Applicants who hold an elective office within the Borough shall be deemed not to possess the minimum requirements for Appointment

LOWER GWYNEDD TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Have reached their 21st birthday before the deadline for submitting completed applications
• Be a United States citizen at the time of appointment
• Possess a high school diploma from an accredited high school or a graduate equivalency diploma (GED)
• Be physically and psychologically capable of performing the duties of a police officer
• Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment
• Be able to read at no less than a ninth-grade level

MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment
• Applicant must be a United State citizen at time of appointment
• Possess a high school diploma or GED
• Have completed a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) or be currently enrolled in an MPOETC certified police academy
• Possess a valid driver’s license
• Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer

BOROUGH OF NORRISTOWN

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Be at least 21 years of age before the deadline for submitting completed applications
• Be a U.S. Citizen
• Possess a high school diploma or GED
• Possess a valid PA driver’s license prior to appointment.
• Be Physically & Mentally fit to perform the duties of police officer
• Act 120 certification NOT required to apply

BOROUGH OF NORTH WALES 

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Be at least 21 years of age before the deadline for submitting completed applications
• Be a U.S. Citizen
• Possess a diploma from an accredited high school or GED
• Possess a valid driver’s license
• Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
• Not have any tattoos or brandings which would be visible when wearing a short sleeve police uniform of the Borough
• Not have any visible ear plugs, gauges or eyelets, or other visible similar body stretching jewelry or ornamentation, and any body parts visible while in uniform which have been altered for the wearing of same shall be repaired in order for the applicant to be eligible for the oral examination
• Have completed or presently be enrolled in a course of study at a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and be able to meet the certification standards of the MPOETC as required by PA Act 120; or qualify for a waiver of training

PENNSBURG BOROUGH – UPPER PERK POLICE DEPARTMENT

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Be a citizen of the United States of America. In the case of a naturalized citizen, evidence of naturalization satisfactory to the commission shall be provided by the applicant at the time of application
• Must have reached their twenty first (21st) birthday before the deadline for submitting completed applications
• Possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, which license shall not be suspended or revoked at the time of filing the application
• Act 120 certification required

SOUDERTON BOROUGH

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Be 21 years of age or older
• Be a U.S. citizen
• Possess a high school diploma or GED
• Act 120 certification NOT required
• Be medically fit
• Possess a PA driver’s license

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Be at least 21 years of age at the time of application
• Be a U.S. Citizen
• Possess a high school diploma or GED
• Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
• Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
• Have completed or presently be enrolled in a course of study at a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and be able to meet the certification standards of the MPOETC as required by PA Act 120; or qualify for a waiver of training
• Police applicants and Police Officers must be free of any tattoos, branding, or body art on the face, ears, and/or neck.
Any visible offensive tattoos, branding, or body art, are prohibited when wearing the Springfield Township Police Department uniform.

TOWAMENCIN TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Be at least 21 years of age before the deadline for submitting completed applications
• Be a U.S. Citizen
• Possess a high school diploma or GED
• Possess a valid PA driver’s license
• Be Physically & Mentally fit to perform the duties of police officer
• Must have completed a course of study at a police academy certified by the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and be able to meet the certification standards of the MPOETC as required by PA Act 120; or qualify for a waiver of training at the time of hire.

UPPER GWYNEDD TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Be at least 21 years of age by the deadline for submitting applications
• Be a U.S. Citizen
• Possess a high school diploma or GED
• Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license by the time of appointment
• Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
• Act 120 Certification NOT REQUIRED to apply, must successfully obtain certification within first year of employment

UPPER MORELAND TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Be at least 21 years of age before the deadline for submitting the application
• Be a U.S. Citizen
• Possess a diploma from an accredited high school or GED
• Possess a valid driver’s license at the time of application
• Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
• Intentional, non-medical body modifications that cannot be concealed or eliminated, such as split tongues, gauged piercings, tongue piercings, and facial implants are prohibited
• Tattoos, brandings, or intentional scarring are not permitted on the face, neck, ears, scalp, or hands
• Tattoos, brandings, or intentional scarring that are gang-related; that convey sexual, racial, religious, ethnic, or related intolerances; that promote a partisan political statement or expression; or that portray derogatory or offensive characterizations contrary to the values of this Department are prohibited
• Tattooing or body art of any kind shall not be visible while in uniform or in other required attire
• Act 120 Certification NOT REQUIRED to apply

UPPER POTTSGROVE

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Be at least 21 years of age by the deadline for submitting applications
• Be a U.S. Citizen
• Be a resident of Pennsylvania at the time of appointment
• Have attained a minimum of 60 college credits from an accredited institution. The 60-credit requirement is waived if you have two (2) years prior law enforcement experience in PA or served in the military for a minimum of four years active duty enlistment.
• Possess a valid PA driver’s license prior to employment
• Successfully completed Act 120 training before the creation of eligibility list and eligible for certification upon receiving conditional offer of employment
• Refer to the rules in place at the time of the written test for final requirements, etc.

WEST NORRITON TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Citizen of the United States
• Twenty-one (21) years of age or older
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Current valid Pennsylvania Operator’s License by date of hire
• Persons currently enrolled in a certified Act 120 Program may apply. Applicants must possess a current Act 120 Certification or must have graduated from an accredited Act 120 Program by the date of appointment.
• The Civil Service Commission reserves the right to reject any applications deemed not to be in the best interests of West Norriton Township.

WEST POTTSGROVE TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Minimum of 21 years of age and meet Civil Service requirements
• High school diploma or GED
• Applicant must be certified by the Municipal Police Officer’s Education and Training Commission (Act 120) by the date of hire.
• Must possess a valid PA driver’s license
• Must be a U.S. citizen

WHITPAIN TOWNSHIP

TO BE CONSIDERED, YOU MUST:

• Be at least 21 years of age by the deadline for submitting applications
• Be a U.S. Citizen
• Possess a high school diploma or GED
• Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license by the time of appointment
• Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
• Not have any tattoos below the wrist or above the neck. No visible brandings, body piercings, ear plugs, gauges or eyelets, or other similar body stretching jewelry or ornamentation.
• Successfully complete written, oral, medical, psychological, physical agility, and polygraph exams and thorough background investigation
• Act 120 Certification NOT REQUIRED to apply, must successfully obtain certification within first year of employment.
